So it’s been absolutely ages since I last posted and while work is a worthwhile excuse, I have let my weekends be absorbed by my rekindled passion for music making. A self-confessed laptop musician, it truly has been ages since I tried my hand at music making and my software (Reason, Ableton) have both managed to move from versions 3 respectively (since I last used them) to versions 6.5 and 8 now. I also discovered that my USB keyboard just would not map to any software controls anymore so I had to start with a proper upgrade to the music studio.
This all came about a couple of months ago when the good chaps at Ableton Software were kind enough to invite me to one of their secret soirees where they introduced the new Live 9 software and Push, their new hardware controller and instrument. While enough to get me salivating, what was truly excellent was to spend some time chatting to Phon.o and Dauwd, two great artists whose music has served to inspire some more experimentation from me too. No longer confined to a specific genre only (I used to be pretty focused on Drum and Bass way back when), I’ve found it fun to let ideas take me wherever they go and thus, creating music in a much more intuitive way is actually more rewarding. If you are curious, you can have a listen here. The set starts with some mellow and then builds..
