This movie is a great peek into how education should really be – to grab the interest, attention and creativity of kids out there.
It makes such a difference to learn by doing and learn by making – and personally, after graduating from the International Baccalaureate programme and going to university – I wanted nothing more than to get out there into the real world to work on something real, to see what I actually could do and what I was good at. So I left after only 3 weeks and went to work for a children's charity and probably learned more there in my 3 years (doing books written by young people for young people on sustainable development, human rights, etc., running projects, doing fundraising – you name it I tried it!) than in whole of primary school put together.
This is not to diss the IB programme – because that was actually really well worth while – you learn to study like you are at university even when you are just in secondary school, so lots of useful skills like identifying patterns in vast quantities of information and so on, you learn on the IB programme.. but, if only we had after school programmes like this.. now you are talking!
