Very interesting story to illustrate a point. But I recently found this quote (by none other than Bob dylan) that goes “A successful man is one who wakes up in the morning, sleeps at night, and in the middle, does what he wants to do.”
Society has definately defined cliches of success, but going with the masses is usually not the smartest way of going about things.
What about a nun, or a relief worker – can these people be called successful? By bob dylan’s account, they can.

Appreciate your point, but got to say it’s worth discussing what we consider an achievement and success as opposed what society thinks we should be doing. It’s not an eulogy in favour of hugging bunnies, it is a point about what you yourself find meaningful in life as opposed to the roles superimposed on you by your partner, friends, work, parents, society etc.
Personally I’m resisting the ‘rolling out kids’ phenomenon too, as I am not struggling to find my life fulfilling unless I have offspring – but this is individual to everyone and should be something we should be able to discuss and debate, rather than simply dismiss.

I’m so tired of hearing people whine about hard work and making justifications and excuses for why play time is more important than work time. Pussies.
Real men are defined by their work. It’s why real men love their job and put so much time and effort into it. Just because we don’t spend countless hours hugging bunnies and sipping lattes doesn’t mean our life isn’t fulfilling.
SHOCKER, but some people are fulfilled without settling down with a partner and squirting out kids and paying mortgages and car payments. Some of us just like to work hard, be productive and bask in our accomplishments and successes.
If you want fucking fingerpainting, go back to kindergarten.
